James Robert "Speed" Hume, 91, of Middletown, died Sunday, June 24, 2012, at Hospice of Butler & Warren Counties. He was born in Middletown, Ohio on August 12, 1920 to parents Charles and Mary Edith (Koeppel) Hume.
James served his country in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. He was member Holy Family Parish, St. John's Church, Middletown, the Knights of Columbus and the Middletown American Legion Post 218. He worked at Aeronca for 17 years and retired from Diebold after 15 years of service.
Mr. Hume is survived by his wife, Juanita Hume; sons, Jeff (Christy) Hume and Greg (Pam) Hume; daughters, Pamela (Tim Hocz) Hume and Kathy (Dan) Swain; sister, Mabel Schliesman; ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
James was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Mary Garrison and Agnes Combs; brother, Paul Hume.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at 10:00 AM at Holy Family Parish - St. John's Church, 1405 First Avenue, Middletown with Father John Civille as celebrant. Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd., Middletown, OH. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by the Middletown Combined Honor Guard.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Butler & Warren Counties, 5940 Long Meadow Dr., Franklin, OH 45005.
