James “Slick” Cope, 79, of Middletown, died Saturday, June 3, 2006, at Middletown Regional Hospital. He was born in Greenfield, Ohio on January 28, 1927 to parents George and Ida Mae (Frisch) Cope.
Slick worked as a welder for Armco Steel Coporation, retiring in 1980. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II. Slick liked to play softball and hardball and played for the Cincinnati Merchants.
Mr. Cope is survived by his daughter, Jennifer (Larry) Deck of Middletown; son, James E. Cope Jr. of Middletown; sister, Marilee O'Connor of Middletown; three brothers, Jerry (Kay) Cope of Middletown, Benson 'Bing' (Mary) Cope of Monroe, and Charlie (Peggy) Cope of Franklin; step brother, Marvin (Lillian 'Sugg') Norton of Middletown; two grandchildren, James E. Cope III and Destiny (Skip) Thompson; and great grandsons, Adam Danner, Jordan Bratcher, Jacob Thompson, Andrew Thompson, and Braden James Cope.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, George 'Dick' Cope, David 'Tad' Cope, and John Cope; and sister, Wilma Gibson.
Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, June 7, 2006 at 11:00 AM at Woodside Cemetery Chapel with Reverend Gene Leiter officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery.
