James W. Mapel, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, died Thursday, November 11, 2010 from cancer, at age 75. He was born in Coshocton, Ohio on November 21, 1934 to parents Seldon and Wilma (Stiteler) Mapel.
After serving in the United States Navy during the Korean War, Jim returned to marry Marilyn Jean Hothem of Fresno, Ohio. During their 55 year marriage, Jim & Marilyn Jean raised four children. After a 34 year career with Penn Central-Conrail Railroads, he retired in Monroe at the age of 55. During the first 10 years of his retirement, he continued to serve on the Board of Directors of the Cincinnatus Big Four Railway Credit Union and in different capacities at the Monroe Presbyterian Church. Jim was also a member of the Coshocton Chapter of the Masonic Lodge.
Mr. Mapel is survived by his wife, Marilyn Jean Mapel; four children, Julie, James Arlen, Christopher & William; brother, Seldon Mapel Jr.; 8 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren. Jim was much loved and will be greatly missed by all of his family.
Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at 12:00 Noon at Monroe Presbyterian Church, 57 W. Elm Street, Monroe, Ohio with Reverend Patrick Warren officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 11:00 - 12:00 noon at the church. Interment will be at Mound Cemetery.
