Jim Greenwell, age 85, of Middletown, OH, peacefully passed away at his home on July 11, 2016, surrounded by loving family. He was born in Leonardtown, MD on June 6, 1931, the oldest son of twelve children to James Combs Greenwell, Sr. and Genevieve Norris Greenwell. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Esther (Botos) Greenwell, of nearly 59 years; 6 beloved children: Mary Beth (Lee Hargrove), Nashville, TN; James (Melissa), Austin, TX; Teresa (Tzangas), Columbus, OH; Richard (Colleen), Sarasota, FL; Steve (Anessa), Middletown, OH; Matthew (Wendy), Morrow, OH and 11 cherished grandchildren: James, Michael, Elizabeth, Genevieve, Victoria, Weston, David, Ben, Nick, Jack and Henry. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and two sisters.
Jim was a Man of God. He was a true family man and a great provider. He retired from Armco Steel after 37 years in sales and management. He was a fun-loving man who shared a deep love with his family. He was patriotic, an avid sports fan and athlete. Jim was a proud graduate and generous supporter of the University of Notre Dame and their football program. He served as Faithful Navigator, 4 times, of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Assembly 2299 and Grand Knight of Council 1610. He was a community leader who sat on numerous boards, including Bishop Fenwick High School, St. Vincent dePaul Society, Middletown Symphony and many more. He was President of the Board of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, St. Matthews, Kentucky, and while there he was named a Kentucky Colonel. While living in Nashville, TN, he was President of the Parish Council and was instrumental in building a new church for Holy Rosary Parish.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, July 16, 2016 at 11:00 am at Holy Family Parish-Holy Trinity Church, 201 Clark St., Middletown, with Father John Civille as celebrant. Visitation will be Friday from 5 – 8:00 at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd., Middletown with a prayer service conducted by the Knights of Columbus Assembly 2299 at 7:30. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery.
