Joan (King) McCain, 73, passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at Hospice of Butler & Warren Counties, where she had been a patient for 2 weeks. She was born in Cowlinge, Suffolk County, England and completed Secondary School when she was 16. In 1960 she married Norman McCain who was a Tech Sergeant with the USAF, stationed in England. They moved to the United States in 1963. Joan loved growing up in England where she developed a life-long love of animals that started with her horse Blossom and numerous cats and dogs. Joan was very close to her family as a child, especially her much beloved and cherished father, George King, who was retired from the Royal Army. He served during WW1 where he was wounded and was also a POW.
Joan leaves to cherish her memory her devoted children, daughter Zoe McCain, son Donald W. McCain along with his fiancé and soon to be stepson, Susan Reynolds and Zachary Lovill, and son Gary McCain and his wife Yvonne (Hutchens) McCain, who was a second daughter to Joan. She is also survived by her grandsons, Donald N. McCain and Randall McCain and his wife Crissy (Engler) McCain, her companion and the love of her life, Robert Caldwell and his family, daughter Kathi Wilson and her husband and children Ted, Kyle and Kelli Wilson and son Jeffrey Caldwell, with his wife and daughter, Victoria and Gabrielle Caldwell. Joan also leaves behind her best friend of 40 years Cynthia O'Rourke with her husband and son, William and Douglas O'Rourke. Last but not least she will be missed by her two precious dogs, Lady and Kodak.
Joan loved to spend time going to craft shows, festivals and holiday events, attending the First United Methodist, going out for tea, taking drives through the county side and travelling to Florida so she could sit by the ocean and watch the sun set. She loved being at home with her pets, drinking tea and watching reruns of Everybody Loves Raymond and Andy Griffith. She cherished all the time she spent with her family and friends. Joan will long be remembered for her warm and loving nature, witty personality, shy smile and kind spirit.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, George and Florence (Prigg) King, sister and brother-in-law Ethel and Albert Barber and sister Alice King, and husband Norman McCain.
Joan was cremated and arrangements were completed by Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home. Per her wishes, there will be no memorial service. However; anyone wishing to honor Joan can make a donation in her name to PAWS of Middletown.
