John Douglas Palmer, 66 of Franklin, passed away on Aug 17 at Hospice of Dayton. He was born November 15, 1942 in Middletown to Harriet Lacey Dole Palmer and Charles Butler Palmer. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 24 years Jayne Cummins Palmer, his daughters The Rev. Amy (Ken) Haines, Jennifer (Scott) Tucker and Lauren Nichole Palmer, grandsons Nathan and Timothy Haines, brothers The Rev. Dr. Richard (Virginia) Palmer and R. David (Kathy) Palmer.
John graduated from Middletown High School class of 1960, attended Wilmington College and graduated from Miami University of Ohio in 1964 and 1969, and University of Dayton in 1987. John taught for Covington City Schools for 3 years then Franklin City Schools for 40 years, serving as high school band director elementary music teacher and as the auditorium coordinator at Franklin High School until June 2009. He was a member of the Covington Ohio Fire Dept. and a charter member fire fighter and Asst. Chief for Franklin Twp fire department Hunter division. John was a member of the Middletown Symphony Orchestra and also performed with numerous musical groups including Middletown Lyric theater. The family would like to thank the cardiac thoracic care unit at Kettering Medical Center for their amazing extended care of John over the past few weeks.
Funeral Service will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Franklin on Thursday, Aug 20, 2009 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at WILSON-SCHRAMM-SPAULDING FUNERAL HOME 3805 Roosevelt Blvd. (at Bonita Dr.), Middletown and Thursday, one hour prior to the service at the church. He will be laid to rest at Woodside Cemetery in Middletown following the service with fire department honors. Donations can be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 500 E.
