John E. Hopper, 81, of Middletown, died Tuesday, January 28, 2003 at Middletown Regional Hospital. He was born in Middletown on January 13, 1922 to parents John M. and Anna Elizabeth (Jeffcott) Hopper.
Mr. Hopper was a member of Holy Family Parish-Holy Trinity Church. He worked as an engineering consultant for Aeronca, Inc. for 45 years, retiring in 1985. He served his country in the United States Air Force, and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. John was an avid speed boat racer for 10 years, and a member of the American Power Boat Association. He won the title of National Speed Boat Champion in 1951. He also loved fishing and classic cars.
John is survived by his three daughters, Gaile Ann (Dan) Susong and Joan (Mike) Urschel, both of Germantown, and Janice (Tony) Larocco of Middletown; and their mother, Margaret (Whiteman) Hopper of Middletown; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and a special niece, Regina (Bill) Carter of Somerville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Harold "Joe" Hopper and Billy Hopper.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, February 1, 2003 at 10:00 AM at Holy Trinity Church with Father John Civille as celebrant. There will be no visitation. Interment will be in Woodside Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Disabled American Veterans, 4610 Trenton-Franklin Road, Middletown, OH 45042.
