John R. Smith

John R. Smith, 68, of Middletown, passed away Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at Middletown Regional Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Ary, Kentucky on June 3, 1935 to parents John C. and Mary (Campbell) Smith.

John was a member of the First Baptist Church of Franklin. He served his country in the United States Army for 3 years as a medical Corpsman in the late 1950´s at Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, DC. John retired in 1997 from Armco Steel Corporation, where he worked in management and research. Besides the love of his family, his second loves were golf and woodworking.

John is survived by his wife of 47 years, Patty J. Smith; two sons, Dexter (Betty) Smith of West Chester and Dr. J. Michael (Sharon) Smith of Cincinnati; three wonderful grandchildren, Lincoln, Harrison, & Olivia Smith of Cincinnati; two sisters, Margie Shafer of Danville, IL, and Geneva (Ira) Combs of Crofton, KY; two brothers, Danny Smith of Oshkosh, WI, and Jim (Judy) Smith of Lombard, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother; and two sisters.

Funeral Service will be held Friday, May 28, 2004 at 10:00 AM at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd. at Bonita Dr., with Dr. Lance Cunningham officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-8 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be at Butler County Memorial Park.
