After the war he became a master carpenter & homebuilder, constructing hundreds of homes in Middletown and surrounding townships. He had been a member of Christ United Methodist Church for over 60 years & helped build the church in its current location. John was a strong, quiet, loving man who loved his family dearly & treated others with love & respect. He especially loved children & was a constant source of their entertainment & delight. John enjoyed the outdoors & sports & was a fan of the Reds since 1931. He never touched a golf club until the age of 65 (when he gave up his softball career) & never put one down until his mid 80's.
