John W. Hopkins, 96, of Turtlecreek Township, died Sunday, March 24, 2013, at Otterbein-Lebanon Retirement Community. He was born in Middletown on May 15, 1916 to parents John and Mary (Reckman) Hopkins.
John was co-owner of Reckman-Dickerson Distributing Company for 43 years, retiring in 1975. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II and was a life member of VFW Post 3809 and American Legion Post 218. He was also a member of Holy Family Parish, Knights of Columbus 1610, Elks BPOE 257 and a life member of the Middletown Sportsman's Club.
Mr. Hopkins is survived by his wife, Margaret (Osust) Hopkins; son, John W. (Evonn) Hopkins; and 4 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Edward J. Hopkins; parents; and sister, Mary Louise Hopkins.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, April 1, 2013 at 12:30 pm at Holy Family Parish - St. John's Church, 1405 First Avenue, Middletown with Father John Civille as celebrant. Visitation will be prior to the service from 10:00 am - 12:00 noon at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd., Middletown. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Middletown Combined Honor Guard.
