Jonah Giovanni Ellis

Jonah Giovanni Ellis (affectionately known as DonDon to his favorites), 22, of Liberty Township, died on Thursday, April 3rd, 2025. He was born in Middletown on January 31st, 2003. He graduated from Lakota East High School, Class of 2021.

Jonah was a lifelong learner and had a wide range of interests. His musical aptitude was expansive, he loved playing the piano, the violin, the cello, could hum a gorgeous tune on a harmonica, the guitar, the dulcimer and even tried his hand at the saxophone. Jonah was also passionate about ancient weaponry such as the halberd, long swords, samurai swords, Danish axes, short spears, daggers and kendo sticks and their associated fighting techniques and history. It was not uncommon to come home to see Jonah practicing weapon moves in the backyard on any given afternoon. Another passion area for Jonah was in the strategy game realm. He was a dedicated Dungeon Master in the D&D world and was also brilliant in the Warhammer 40K universe of gameplay.

Jonah attended Miami University for his Freshman year of college and then decided to serve in the Army. He was a Paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division, serving in HHC, 407th Brigade Support Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team as a Signal Support Systems Specialist (25U). He was awarded two Army Achievement medals. Jonah died while serving at Fort Bragg in North Carolina.

Jonah is survived by his mother, Sarah Arthur & stepfather, William Arthur; brothers, James Ellis, Vincent Ellis & William “Liam” Arthur; sisters, Cleopatra Ellis, Violet Ellis & Esmee Arthur; nephew, Jaxton Ellis; maternal grandparents, Ildiko (Ronald) Sherman; step-paternal grandparents, Marie & William “Robert” Arthur, and many close friends.

Graveside service will be Friday, April 25, 2025 at 3:00 pm at Woodside Cemetery & Arboretum, 1401 Woodside Blvd, Middletown, with Pastor Michelle Terry officiating and military honors accorded. A Celebration of Life in Jonah’s honor will follow at the Woodside Community Room.
