Joseph F. Hearlihy, 82, of Middletown, OH and Ft. Myers, FL, passed away Wednesday, September 14, 2016, at Hospice of Butler & Warren Counties. He was born in Springfield, Ohio on February 11, 1934 to parents Edward Michael and Nora Margaret (Welsh) Hearlihy.
Joe graduated from Springfield Catholic Central High School in 1952. He served his country in the United States Army from November 1954 to August 1956. Following his service he worked at International Harvester and he then married Suzanne Catherine Ulliman on September 5, 1959. He went on to graduate from the University of Dayton in April 1971 with his BS in BA. He worked in the insurance industry for many years, retiring from Amica Mutual Insurance Company as a branch manager in the Cincinnati office in 1995. Joe & Suzanne lived in Monroe for 37 years, where he was very active in the community. He was a member of the Monroe Park Board (Monroe Community Park) and helped to organize the rebuilding of the park to include baseball/softball diamonds. He also helped create a girls softball league and a boys traveling baseball team. He was a member of the Village of Monroe Personnel Board 1984 - 1989, the Village of Monroe Planning/Zoning Commission 1989 - 1996 and held Commissioner's position.
Mr. Hearlihy is survived by his wife, Suzanne Hearlihy; children, Michael Patrick (Patty) Hearlihy, Teresa Ann (Dwayne) Myers & Kathleen Marie (Brian) Schlemmer; brother, Tom Hearlihy; grandchildren, Kevin Jones, Randy (Presley) Hearlihy, Megan Schlemmer, Jamie Hearlihy, & Daniel Schlemmer; and great grandchildren, Liam & Clara.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, John Hearlihy & Robert Hearlihy.
Memorial Mass will be held Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at 10:00 am at Holy Family Parish - Holy Trinity Church, 201 Clark Street, Middletown with Father John Civille as celebrant. The family will receive friends on Monday from 5:00 - 8:00 pm at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd., Middletown, OH. Inurnment will be at Woodside Mausoleum with military honors conducted by the Middletown Combined Honor Guard.
