Joseph H. George, 86, of Monroe, died Tuesday, May 27, 2008, at Atrium Medical Center. He was born in Middletown, on July 3, 1921 to parents Nick and Stella (Ditmyer) George.
Mr. George worked in maintenance for AK Steel for 38 years. He served his country in the United States Army with the 1st Armored Division during World War II, serving in North Africa, Italy, and Germany. He received a Purple Heart Medal and was a member of the Purple Heart Association.
The family wishes to extend many thanks to Mr. George's caregiver, Steve Wilson.
Mr. George is survived by his wife, Evelyn (Redkey) George; two daughters, Garnetta (Stephen) Lewis and Aledra George; a son, Ronald (Patricia) George; sister, Beatrice Brewer; and four grandchildren, Dr. Jeromy (Traci) Lewis, Jamie Lewis, Melissa (Mark) Graves, and Gregory George.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Eloise Kolker and Mildred Brashear.
Funeral Service will be held Friday, May 30, 2008 at 2:00 PM at WILSON-SCHRAMM-SPAULDING FUNERAL HOME, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd. (at Bonita Dr.), Middletown with Pastor Roger Green officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 1:00 - 2:00 pm. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Middletown Combined Honor Guard.
