Joyce A. Hayes

Joyce A. (Hackney) Hayes, 71, of Monroe, died Sunday, October 5, 2014, at Atrium Medical Center. She was born in Middletown on October 24, 1942 to parents Walter L. and Laura (Hatton) Hackney.

Joyce was a 1960 graduate of Middletown High School and worked as a secretary in the commercial organization of Armco Steel Corp for 30 years, retiring in 1994. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Armco Girls and played with their Thursday golf league.

Mrs. Hayes is survived by her brother, Walter L. Hackney II; sisters, Faye (Byron) Mays & Kaye Ferlise; sister-in-law, Beverly (Daniel) Younkins; special nephew, Jordan Landsaw; loving nieces, Barbara Bradley, Kristi Brewer, Robin Poffenberger & Cathi Henton; and her beloved dog, Molly.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James D. Hayes and her parents.

The family wants to extend special thanks to Bill & Peggy Burnside for all of their care and support.

Funeral Service will be held Friday, October 10, 2014 at 11:00 am at Grace Baptist Church, 3023 N. Union Rd., Franklin with Reverend Max Fernandez officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd. and one hour prior to the service on Friday from 10:00 - 11:00 am at the church. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery.
