Laura B. Ayer, 90, of Monroe died on August 9, 2002, at Middletown Regional Hospital. She was born in Burtonsville, Maryland on February 22, 1912.
Laura served her country in the United States Army where she served from July 22, 1942 to February 9, 1946. Mrs. Ayer was a captain in the Army Nurse Corps serving as a surgical nurse in World War II at the 93rd Evac Hospital. She was a nurse supervisor at the Baltimore EENT Hospital. She was a member of Monroe Presbyterian Church, actice in nursery care at First Presbyterian Church, the head of nursery care at Mt. Auburn Presbyterian Church and a member of the 93rd Evac Club.
Laura was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Elizabeth (Soper) Burton and Minnie (Athey) Burton and four brothers, Evan, Vernon, Alvin and Isaac Burton, and a sister, Myrtle Adams.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Joseph C. Ayer; four sisters: Anna Gedris of St. Augustine, FL, Charlotte Carr of Brinklow, MD, Irene Baker of MD, and Edna Wilson of MD; four brothers: Raymond Burton of Laural, MD, Richard Burton of Burtonsville, MD, Thomas Burton of Laurel, MD and Wilson Burton of Laurel, MD.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, August 14, 2002 at 10:00 AM at the Mt. Pleasant Retirement Village with Reverends Stan Gockel and Sam Gibb officiating. Burial at Dayton National Cemetery will be private.
