Lester S. “Bill” Hammond, 69, of Middletown, died on July 7, 2003, at Southview Hospital. He was born in Guage, Kentucky on January 1, 1934 to parents Taylor and Austia Opal (Craft) Hammond. Lester served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Hammond was a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church. He was a job setter for General Motors in Dayton. He retired in 1988 after 23 ½ years . Mr. & Mrs. Hammond were married 44 years on July 4, 2003. Les was an amateur radio operator. His call sign WB8JOW. He was a member of the Dial Radio Club.
Lester was preceded in death by his mother, Austia Opal (Craft) Hammonds in 1990 and his stepmother, Katherine Stephens Hammonds in 1991.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn “Dani” (Crase) Hammond; his father, Taylor Hammond of W. Liberty, KY; three daughters: Teresa Lynn Hammond of Middletown, Lisa (John) Combs of Middletown and JoConda (Jack) Lovelace of Loudon, TN; one sister: Doris Stevens of Clearfield, KY; four brothers: Roger Lee (Toy) Hammond of Carolina Beach, NC, Wilgus O. (Janie) Hammond of W. Liberty, KY, Charles D. Hammond of Aurora, IN, Robert L. Hammond of Aurora, IN; two grandsons, Jacob Andrew Combs and Jeremiah Adam Combs of Middletown; and numerous nieces & nephews.
Mr. Hammond was saved and baptized at the First Freewill Baptist Church on April 28, 1985. He was a quiet, gentle man and will be greatly missed.
Funeral Service will be held Thursday, July 10, 2003 at 1:00 PM at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home with Reverend Bob Reed officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 9, 2003 from 5-8 PM at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd. at Bonita Drive. Interment will be at Butler County Memorial Park.
