After graduating from Middletown High School, she graduated from Miami Jacobs College, Dayton, Ohio in 1940. She immediately started working for Olgesby Barnitz Bank until she was married. In 1943, Lois married O.V. "Jake" Ireland six weeks before he reported for his World War II duty with the U.S. Air Force. Their 72nd Anniversary was to be this year. Lois's activities were many. Besides driving her kids and their friends everywhere, she was a long time member of the Shovel & Hoe Garden Club. She and others were responsible for the flower beds at the entrances to the city of Middletown. She was a member of the Delta Theta Tau Sorority since 1940, a volunteer at the Middletown Regional Hospital, the Salvation Army and worked for The League of Women Voters. Both before and while a Mt. Pleasant resident, she especially enjoyed the craft-making get-togethers with friends. She lived most of her life in Middletown but also resided in Sarasota, Florida 7 months a year for 20 years, "a snowbird", then Mt. Pleasant for the last 14 years. Lois loved to play bridge, loved golf at Middletown's Wildwood Golf Club and The Meadows Country Club in Sarasota, Florida, avid tennis player with friends in Middletown & Sarasota. She & Jake were world travelers - visited most of the major nations of the world while enjoying each other's company. Lois loved and supported her family. Jake & Lois have two children, Jeffrey & wife Gunta of Sierra Madre, CA and Janis & husband Scott Nein of Middletown. She always helped her children, and then came the grandkids which she provided special outings with many beautiful memories.
