Louis R. Cales, 74, of Middletown, passed away on Friday, December 23, 2022 at his home. He was born in Dayton on May 23, 1948 to parents, Louis M. and Odessa M. (Martin) Cales, who preceded him in death.
Louis made his career as a plumber and electrician. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, having served during Vietnam where he earned the Purple Heart as well as a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Navy Unit Commendation and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. Louis was a fan of NASCAR, especially driver Davey Allison. He also enjoyed collecting owls and knives.
To Louis, family was always #1 and he especially loved his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Lois (Kelhoffer) Cales; children, Heather (Matt) VanderRoest, Sam (Daryl) Fisher, Amber (Jason) Wenzel, Brooke (Justin) Carter, Ashley Cales & Louis "Bud" (Christine) Cales II; sisters, Linda "Cookie" Ebright & Vicki (Bill) Kelsey; niece, Lori Pedroncelli; and his fifteen grandchildren, Brandon VanderRoest, Justin VanderRoest, Meagan VanderRoest, Tyler Scott Fisher, Jared Fisher, Jason Tyler Wenzel, Kyle Wenzel, Brynnan Abney, Rhylanne Cales, Mason Carter, Miles Carter, Delilah Cales, Josh Cales, Miranda Cales & Eli Cales.
Graveside service will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at 10:00 am at Dayton National Cemetery, with full military honors and Pastor Rick Stuhmer officiating.
