Lucy M. Dillon, 92, of Monroe, OH died Monday, December 24, 2012, at Mt. Pleasant Retirement Village Assisted Living in Monroe, OH. She was born in Middletown, OH on November 15, 1920 to Lawrence J. Long Sr. and Eppa (Miller) Long.

She graduated from Middletown High School in 1938 and from Miami University, Oxford, OH in 1942 with a degree in English. She taught English, history, and current events for four years at Roosevelt Junior High School during World War II and retained an interest in these subjects throughout her life. Mrs. Dillon was also employed as a juvenile probation officer in Butler County during the late 1960's and early 1970's. She was instrumental in establishing a group home in Middletown called Alternatives, where delinquent girls could live in a supervised setting and continue to attend school. Mrs. Dillon was a member of Holy Family Parish.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 59 years, John C. Dillon Sr. ("Con"); and her brother, Lawrence J. Long, Jr.

She is survived by her sister, Barbara Ann (James) Dillon; two children, John C. (Karen) Dillon Jr. and Suzanne (Steven) Tunning both of Middletown, OH; two grandchildren, Daniel R. Frease of Middletown, OH and Katherine (Daniel Sproul) Tunning of Jamaica Plain, MA; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Memorial service will be held Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Mary H. Kittredge Chapel at Mt. Pleasant Retirement Village, 225 Britton Lane, Monroe, with Father John Civille officiating.

It was Mrs. Dillon's wish that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Hospice Care of Middletown, 2909 Central Ave., Middletown, OH 45044, St. Vincent dePaul Society c/o Holy Family Parish, 201 Clark St., Middletown, OH 45042, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
