Lydia Marie Ashton

Lydia Marie (Thornbery) Ashton, 87, of Monroe, passed away Sunday, March 27, 2011, at Mt. Pleasant Retirement Village. She was born in Monroe on August 17, 1923 to parents John and Pearl (Caudill) Thornbery.

Marie lived most of her life in the Monroe - Middletown area and graduated from Gratis High School in 1941, where she had been a sports cheerleader. She was a member of the Friendship Club for nearly 70 years. Marie was employed by the Middletown Board of Education and the State of Ohio Public Employees System for 25 years.

Mrs. Ashton was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Ralph.

She leaves to cherish her memory a son, Rick J. (Marcia) Ashton of Oak Park, IL; daughter, Susan M. Ashton (Patricia Robertson) of San Francisco, CA; two grandsons, Jonathan (Natalie) Ashton & David (Tica) Ashton; and two great grandchildren.

Memorial service will be held Thursday, March 31, 2011 at 10:00 am at Mary H. Kittredge Chapel at Mt. Pleasant Retirement Village, 225 Britton Lane, Monroe.
