Margaret G. Day, 90, of Middletown, died Tuesday, January 18, 2011, at home. She was born in St. Helens, Kentucky on October 27, 1920 to parents Dorsey and Alverda (Hall) Cockerham.
Margaret was a graduate of Miami University. She taught for Middletown City Schools, in the 1970's started the first Reading Lab in Middletown and retired from teaching in 1983. She was a member and Past Worthy Matron of the former Ida Morningstar Chapter currently Prosser Chapter Order of Eastern Star, Past Worthy High Priestess of Middletown White Shrine and Past Royal Matron of Order of Amaranth. She was past president of the Middletown Federation of Women's Clubs and past president of the Women's Center Executive Board, organizing numerous events there.
Mrs. Day is survived by her daughters, Gertie (James) Schweitzer and Dana (G. David) Howard; brother, John D. Cockerham; nine grandchildren, Donya, Scott (Marlene), Becky (Rusty), Kent, Natalie (Daron), Brett (Michelle), Kirt, Aaron (Audrey) & Andrew; seventeen great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; and numerous other loving family & friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Day in 2002; her parents; sister, Mary Jo McCrosky; and brother, Emory Cockerham.
The family wishes to thank Hospice Care of Middletown and personal caregiver, April for all the wonderful care of Margaret.
Funeral Service will be held Monday, January 24, 2011 at 1:00 pm at Christ United Methodist Church, 700 S. Marshall Rd., Middletown with Reverend Norman Coleman III officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00 - 8:00 pm at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd., Middletown, OH. Interment will be at Butler County Memorial Park.
