Mary Catherine Delp passed away at Renaissance Village, Middletown, Ohio on Sunday June 3, 2012 at age 92. She was born May 6, 1920 in Middletown, Ohio to parents, Charles Thomas and Nellie Delp. Miss Delp graduated from Middletown High School, class of 1938. She attended and graduated from Miami Jacobs Secretarial College, Dayton, Ohio. Her career started then at Armco Steel Corp as an executive secretary for 44 years. She was the first female to work at the Armco Credit Union. She was furloughed to the U.S. Navy in 1944 to serve her country as a U.S. Navy Wave during World War II, stationed in Washington, D.C. as a specialist Third Class. Her navy training was at Hunter College, New York City.
Mary was a very unique and busy lady. She lived a full life with many interests. She was a doll Collector, including doll houses, complete with electric, carpet and all finishing touches. She loved traveling, many cruises here and abroad, including the Mediterranean. She was an avid bridge player and golfer. She traveled every state extensively. She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ.
Miss Delp was preceded in death by her parents, a younger sister, Martha Louise Delp, a younger brother, Charles Wilson Delp. Another older brother, Robert Lewis Delp served in the air force during World War II as a pilot and flew the P-38 fighter plane. He was shot down over the Mediterranean after making headlines in the Middletown paper by shooting down many German and Italian transport planes over the Mediterranean area. He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
Miss Delp is survived by many friends and her adopted family of her lifelong friend, Pat Easterling. Adopted nephews, Chad Patrick, Rick Ayres and Jan Easterling.
Funeral Service will be held Thursday, June7, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd., Middletown with Pastor Alecia Schroedel officiating . Visitation will be prior to the service from 1-2 PM. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery with the Middletown Combined Honor Guard.
