Mary Jane Palmer Nunlist, 64, of Middletown, died Saturday, December 1, 2007, at Middletown Regional Hospital. She was born in Winchester, Kentucky on July 26, 1943 to Kenneth and Sara (Barnett) Combs.
In January 1986, Mary Jane founded Palmer Temps, Inc. to help meet the needs of local business. Four years later, Palmer Temps received the Crescendo Award, honoring the Cincinnati areas' 50 fastest growing, privately held companies. In 1995, 1996, and 2001, the Mid-Miami Valley Chamber of Commerce awarded Palmer Temps a "Faith In The Future" award. In 1995, The Palmer Group became the parent company of Palmer Temps, ComputerTutor, and Palmer Personnel Solutions and in 1996, mPhatic Ads & Design was founded, specializing in web page design and hosting Middletown.com. In 1998, Mary Jane was in the first group of former Middletown High School graduates to be named to the “Hall of Fame”, honoring MHS’s most exceptional graduates.
Mary Jane was a former officer of the Ohio Staffing Services Association and has served on the Board of Directors for Abilities First Foundation, The Middletown Area Safety Council, The Middletown Economic Development Corporation, Middletown Community Foundation, and Hospice. She was also active with the Butler County Board of Mental Retardation and served on a steering committee for the Butler County Children's Services. She served as Chairperson of the Employer Economic Development Team for the State of Ohio pilot program," Project More", to increase employment opportunities for persons with disabilities. Mary Jane previously served on the Middletown Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, two years on the Executive Board, Junior Achievement, Middletown Convention & Visitors Bureau, and Middletown Area Senior Citizens. She was an officer of the Butler-Middletown Unit of the American Cancer Society and has served as a member of the Middletown Symphony Board of Directors.
Mary Jane was presented the Woman of Excellence award by the West Chester Chamber Alliance in 2002, the Soroptimist International of Middletown Woman of Distinction Award in 1999, and received the Athena Award in 2001 at the 3rd Annual Women in Networking Conference.
Mary Jane is survived by her husband, Richard A. Nunlist; one son, Patrick Palmer; her mother, Sara Combs; sister, Peggy Combs; three grandchildren, Brittany Palmer, Corrine Palmer, and Kyle Palmer; and their mother, Amy Palmer, all of Middletown; and her family of staff at Palmer Temps, Sandy, Becky, Amy, Travis, Frankie, & Tina.
She was preceded in death by her father.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday, December 6, 2007 at 11:00 AM at Holy Family Parish - St. John's Church with Father John Civille officiating. A Gathering of Family and Friends will be Wednesday, from 5:00 - 8:00 pm at WILSON-SCHRAMM-SPAULDING FUNERAL HOME, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd. (at Bonita Dr.), Middletown. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be sent to Middletown Community Foundation, 36 Donham Plaza, Middletown, OH 45042, where they will be distributed to Mary Jane's favorite charities.
