Mary Nell Griffin, 95, daughter of W.R. and Sarah (Myers) Griffin, passed away peacefully at her cottage in Mt. Pleasant Village on Tuesday, January 6, 2009.
Miss Griffin was active and involved in her community until the last six months. Her long, rich, productive life included 38 years at Norwood High School (1938-1976) where she taught Phys. Ed., was a student counselor, Dean of Girls and Assistant Principal. A 1936 graduate of Denison University, Miss Griffin received her Master's Degree from University of Cincinnati in 1948. In 1995, she was enshrined into the Norwood High School Hall of Fame, honoring her contribution to the community and women's sports. Instrumental in the operations of Merrymeeting Camp in Bath, Maine, she also resided seasonally in Booth Bay Harbor and Sanibel Island, Florida. A lover of education, sports and people, Miss Griffin positively influenced thousands of students, many of those today her closest friends. She is survived by numerous cousins and dear friends.
A Memorial service will be held Saturday, January 10, 2009 at 11:00 am at Monroe Presbyterian Church, 57 W. Elm Street, Monroe with Reverend Pat Warren officiating, with a luncheon following.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the fund Miss Griffin established, the Norwood High School Scholarship Foundation, P.O. Box 12522, Norwood, OH 45212 – OR – the Mt. Pleasant Life Care Fund, 225 Britton Lane, Monroe, OH 45050.
