Maybel I. Lawson, 92, of Middletown, died Tuesday, December 31, 2013, at Hospice of Dayton. She was born in Kentucky on November 7, 1921, the oldest of 8 children to parents Stephen and Pearlie (Proffit) Shepherd.
Maybel worked as a secretary for Middletown City Schools for 29 years. In 1958, her husband founded the Community Church in Hamilton. They ran the church for 45 years and she was involved with the music program during that time. She was also a member of Eastern Star and was active with the Rainbow Girls. She was a volunteer for the Mended Hearts program at Middletown Hospital for many years.
Mrs. Lawson is survived by her daughter, Jennifer McDougall; son, Larry (Donna) Lawson; sisters, Mildred McEvoy, Mary Lou Brooks & Gayle Vale; grandchildren, Todd (Christine) Lawson, Aaron Lawson, Sarah Lawson, Jessica (Chad) Pettit & Katie (Tom) Mitchell; and great grandchildren, Jack & Eric Pettit, Lucas, Cliff & Joseph Mitchell and Samuel & Paul Lawson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford "Jack" Lawson Jr.; parents; sisters, Martha Waldbaum & Judith Peduto; and brothers, Dorsey Shepherd, Paul Shepherd & Jesse Thompson.
Services will be held Saturday, January 4, 2014 with Eastern Star service starting at 11:00 am and funeral immediately following at WILSON-SCHRAMM-SPAULDING FUNERAL HOME, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd., Middletown with Pastor Brad Martin officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 10:00 - 11:00 am. Interment will be at Butler County Memorial Park.
