Merle Rieck Williams, loving father and devoted grandfather, 63, of Middletown, died Sunday, January 6, 2008, at Atrium Medical Center. He was born in Bridgeport, Ohio on August 15, 1944 to parents Merle and Emma (Rieck) Williams.
Merle was a 1962 graduate of Lemon Monroe High School. He attended Miami University and served in the National Guard. Mr. Williams was employed by Armco Steel for 36 years, retiring from AK Steel in 2003, and was a proud union member. As an adolescent, Merle was a lifeguard at LeSourdesville Lake. An avid athlete, he remained a sports enthusiast throughout his life. Merle was an avid reader and enjoyed the occasional fishing outing where he could relax and enjoy his retirement. He was devoted to his family, generous, loyal, and caring. He will be deeply missed.
Merle is survived by two daughters, Wendra (Bijay) Mathew and Deandra Williams; a brother: James Karl Williams; nephew, Jarrett Williams; and two grandchildren, Andrew and Shreeya Mathew.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Service will be held Friday, January 11, 2008 at 11:00 AM at WILSON-SCHRAMM-SPAULDING FUNERAL HOME, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd. (at Bonita Dr.) with Reverend Pat Warren officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery.
