Merle W. Zacche, 90, of Middletown, died Wednesday, January 2, 2008, at Atrium Medical Center. She was born in West Middletown, on July 5, 1917 to parents Clinton E. and Viola A. (Doench) Ward.
Mrs. Zacche attended Miami University. She worked as a teacher for Hamilton City Schools for 26 years, most of that time teaching 5th grade at Lincoln Elementary, and retired in 1962. She was a life-long member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ and member of the Women's Guild at church. She was also a member of the Middletown Historical Society, the Women's Club of Middletown, and the Butler County Retired Teachers Association. She loved gardening, music, traveling, painting, line drawings, and water colors.
She is survived by three nieces, Linda D. Barton, Martha F. Morgan, Debbi A. Mansell; a nephew, Joseph (Elizabeth) Ditmyer; many great nieces & nephews; and one great great nephew.
She was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, Gastone T. Zacche in 2005; her sister, Marjorie Ward Ditmyer in 1989; and her parents.
Funeral Service will be held Saturday, January 5, 2008 at 11:00 AM at WILSON-SCHRAMM-SPAULDING FUNERAL HOME, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd. (at Bonita Dr.) with Reverend Todd Mills officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, prior to the service from 9:30-11:00 AM. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery.
