Michael Dannis

Michael Dannis, 96, of Monroe, died Monday, April 14, 2014, at Hospice of Butler & Warren Counties. He was born in Cleveland on March 1, 1918.

After graduating from Ohio University, he joined Armco Inc. in the Works Metallurgical Dept., transferring to Research and Technology in 1947. He retired as Manager of the Chem Lab in 1980. He was a member of the American Chemical Society, Water Pollution Control Federation, and American Society for Testing & Materials Subcommittee on Water. Michael was a member of First Presbyterian Church, serving as deacon, trustee, elder, and church school superintendent. He also served on various church committees. He was a driver for the FISH program and nursery daycare and a member of the Chancel Choir. He was active in many community causes. He was an honorary lifetime member of the Middletown YMCA, serving on membership campaigns, board of directors, and the Programs and Activities committee for 34 years. Mr. Dannis was the president of Jefferson Elementary School PTA and district commissioner for the Boy Scouts. He served both the Middletown and Warren County United Way. He was a member of Middletown Regional Hospital Auxiliary and volunteered in many departments of the hospital. He was a member of the Middletown Tennis Club, Wildwood Golf Club, Middletown Duplicate Bridge Club, and YMCA Bridge-a-rama.

Mr. Dannis is survived by his children, Margaret Wilson, Elaine Nordstrom (John Rich), Jane Miller (Roger), and Ted Dannis (Marianne); special friend, Lois Kinsworthy; 10 grandchildren, Audrey, Lisa, Brad, Doug, Mike, Eric, Pete, Ellen, Amy & Jack; and 20 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Laura; parents, Andrew & Pauline Iwanotchko; brothers, Charles Dannis & Steve Ivan; and sisters, Anna Bugman & Mary Hinding.

Memorial service will be held Saturday, May 3, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Mary H. Kittredge Chapel at Mt. Pleasant Retirement Village, 225 Britton Lane, Monroe.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Butler & Warren Counties, 5940 Long Meadow Dr., Franklin, OH 45005
