Mildred Evelyn Baldwin, 88, of Monroe, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 14, 2009, in the presence of loving family and caring nursing attendants at Baptist Convalescent Center in Newport, Kentucky. She was born in Niles, Michigan on October 29, 1920, the youngest child and daughter of Emory Ray and Eva Gertrude (Nunem) Hosier.
As a child and young woman, Mildred showed great aptitude and enthusiasm for all endeavors. She was bright, witty, athletic, and a leader and an organizer who enjoyed being at the center of everything. Her intelligence was remarkable, and she distinguished herself in her studies at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois. She left college during the war years to marry the love of her life, Charles Edward Baldwin on April 30, 1944 and began raising a family that grew to include their beloved children - sons Stephen E. and James E. Baldwin and daughter Susan E. Baldwin Sheskey. She delighted in all aspects of family life and embraced the communities in which she lived with her volunteer work. Throughout her entire life, Mildred loved the Lord. She had a deep and abiding faith that sustained her through time, especially as her health deteriorated and as she courageously struggled with debilitating illness.
Mrs. Baldwin is survived by her children, Stephen E. (Ella) Baldwin, James E. (Cindy) Baldwin and Susan E. (Michael) Sheskey; seven grandchildren, Jennifer (Sean) Kagy, Eric (Betsy) Baldwin, Matthew Sheskey, Trevor Baldwin, William Baldwin, Lauren Baldwin and Dillon Baldwin; and four great grandchildren, Christian Kagy, Alexandra Kagy, Mason Baldwin and Oscar Baldwin.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years; her parents; two sisters; and one grandson, Michael Baldwin Sheskey.
Private family services will be held at WILSON-SCHRAMM-SPAULDING FUNERAL HOME, followed by a scattering of her cremains at the Remembrance Garden at Woodside Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, she asked that memorial donations may be made to the organizations and causes that had significance for her during her life - the Indiana School for the Deaf, 1200 East 42nd St., Indianapolis, IN 46205; the Monroe United Methodist Church, 206 East Ave., Monroe, OH 45050; and the Butler County Mental Health Association & Board, 5963 Boymel Dr., Fairfield, OH 45014.
