Nancy (Balger) Summers passed away on April 16, 2011 at Otterbein Home, Lebanon, Ohio. She was born in Omaha, NE on February 16, 1930 to Frederick and Delores Wiles Trilety. She graduated from Mariemont High School in 1948 and received her B.S. in Education from Miami University in 1952. Nancy taught for more than 35 years in Ohio, mostly in Middletown. She Received the Virginia Shaffer Award for excellence in teaching in 1983. During her career she mentored more than 20 student teachers from Miami University.
On August 15, 1953 she married Robert Charles Balger and began her life in Middletown. She served as Vice President of the Middletown Teachers Association and as a officer of the various PTA's with which she was affiliated while teaching. She and her first husband served as presidents of the Musical Arts Association of Middletown High School. She retired in 1989. They were members of Coterie Dance Club, serving as co-presidents. Nancy was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority and was a charter member of Alpha Chapter, Cristonian Club, Middletown teachers club, a Meals on wheels volunteer, the Sorosis Club, and she was a fifty+ year member of First United Methodist Church, holding many positions there. She co-founded the Out For Fun group there, which continues to be a support and social group of FUMC. Nancy married her high school love on February 20, 1994, Nancy & Frank Summers of Niantic, Connecticut divided their time between their homes for many years.
Nancy is survived by her husband Frank Wesley Summers, two daughters; Betsy Balger of Middletown and Beverly (Allan) Sutley of Tyrone, PA; three step-children Jim (Jane) Summers, Laura Summers and Dan (Sandy) Summers, sister-in-law Joanne Trilety, one niece, one nephew, six grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Summers was predeceased by her parents, a brother Bruce Trilety and her first husband Robert Balger in 1987.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church at 10:00 am. With Revs. Dean Penrod and Norman Coleman officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 pm to 8:00pm at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd. Interment at Springboro Cemetery.
