Norbert E. Werner, 92, of Mt. Pleasant Retirement Village, died Sunday February 10, 2008 at the Atrium Medical Center. He was born June 24, 1915 in Middletown to parents Louis and Margaret Retsch Werner. He graduated from Middletown High School and attended the University of Cincinnati and Miami University Middletown. He was in the Middletown High School band when John Philip Sousa came to Middletown and led the band in playing "Stars and Stripes Forever".
Mr. Werner repaired radios and televisions in this area for 30 years and retired from Ohio Bell Telephone Co. in 1979 after 38 years of service. After his retirement he worked for Elder Beerman at the Middletown Mall for 8 years.
He is survived by his daughter Barbara (Anthony) Calabrese of Maitland, FL; grandchildren Mark (Donna) Takach, Christopher (Kim) Takach, Marybeth (James) Wydock: three step grandchildren, Wayne Kash, Lori Ann (Kevin) Dye, and Debbie (David) Legg; 8 great grandchildren Mark Jr., Dustin, and Kaitlin Takach, Madison and Katie Wydock, Tyler and Brandon Risner, and Christian Wayne Dye.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years Betty J. Downing Werner, his parents, four sisters Matilda and Theresa Werner, Mary Hartman, and Clementine Rhodhamel, and a brother Harry Werner.
Funeral services will be held Monday February 11, 2008 at 7:00PM at WILSON SCHRAMM SPAULDING Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd. (at Bonita DR.) with Chaplain Jackie Ward. Visitation will be Monday prior to the service from 5:00- 7:00PM at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made to Mt. Pleasant Life Care Fund, 225 Britton Lane, Monroe, OH 45050.
