Patricia L. Hathaway, 83, of Monroe, died on Tuesday. December 22, 2020 at Ohio Living Mt. Pleasant. Pat was born on August 20, 1937 in Middletown, Ohio to James and Dorothy (Reiner) Lawrence. She graduated from Middletown High School in 1955. In 1959 she married Carl Hathaway and they had three children before divorcing in 1973.
Pat was a lifelong resident of Middletown until her move to Mt. Pleasant in July 2020. Pat’s career included several years at the former Barnitz Bank, but the most time was spent at Abilities First as an administrative assistant. She loved greeting families, kids, visitors and staff at the front desk.
Pat loved to dance and made many friends in the ballroom dance community. She helped organize many of her high school class reunions. She was very active at the First Presbyterian Church, serving as an Elder and member of various committees during her 70 years of membership. She especially enjoyed reaching out to new members and making them feel welcome. She continued to attend church regularly after her move to Mt. Pleasant. After Pat retired, she enjoyed going to the senior center to play bridge and visit with friends. She also liked watching the Cincinnati Reds games on TV. Pat loved to shop, especially for clothes, and was always very particular about her appearance. She never missed her weekly hair appointment at the Pagoda.
Pat found great joy in tending to her plants both inside and out. She had many African violets inside and each spring looked forward to planting pots of geraniums and hibiscus outside on her patio. The plants followed her to Mt. Pleasant where other residents commented on her beautiful flowers. Because of the restrictions related to COVID, Pat was unable to fully enjoy social life at Mt. Pleasant.
Pat is survived by her three children: Lisa Hathaway of St. Johns, FL; David (Nance) Hathaway of Rockton, IL; Jeff Hathaway of Mason, OH, sisters Sue Harris of Suwanee, GA; Kay Price of Centerville, OH; and grandchildren Tyler, Katie, Parker and Spencer Hathaway. Both Katie and Spencer were a big help to Pat as she declined the past few years.
In mid- December, Pat was moved to the skilled care unit at Mount Pleasant where she declined and entered hospice care. She passed away peacefully on December 22, the exact date of her mother’s death in 2011.
A celebration of Patricia’s life will take place at a later date.
