Peter F. Kalmus

Peter F. Kalmus, 92, of Middletown, passed away Friday, June 18, 2004, at Willow Knoll Retirement Community.

He was born on November 6, 1911 in Vienna, Austria, moving to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1929. He became a resident of Middletown in 1946. He was a registered professional engineer, beginning his training in Vienna and completing his degree at the University of Cincinnati.

Mr. Kalmus retired from Armco, Middletown Works, in 1976, after 30 years as a supervising engineer. Prior to his employment at Armco, he was employed at Crosley Radio Corporation, Cleveland American Steel and Wire, Wright-Aeronautical Corporations, and McGraw Construction.

Mr. Kalmus was a member of the Holy Family Parish. For many years, he served as president of the Engineers’ Society of Ohio, president of the Middletown High School Band Boosters, president of Verity Swim Club, and board member for the Building and Codes Commission for the city of Middletown. He was active in the Cotillion Dance Club for 24 years. Peter also was involved in Junior Achievement, was a Cub Scout Leader, volunteered with Meals on Wheels and was responsible for the ecological project of the “Greenbelt” which encircles Armco.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Jule W. (Weinkam) Kalmus; a son, P.Larry (Denise) Kalmus; and two grandchildren, Jessica Kalmus and Lauren Kalmus who all reside in Middletown. Peter also has many nieces and nephews along with numerous relatives in Austria.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, June 21, 2004 at 11:00 AM at Holy Family Parish - Holy Trinity Church with Father John Civille as celebrant. Visitation will be Sunday, June 20, 2004 from 2-4 PM at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd., Middletown, OH. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery.
