Raymond E. Witte, 95, died Tuesday, March 15, 2016. He was born in Richmond, Indiana on July 20, 1920, the youngest of six children to parents William and Mary (Horstman) Witte.
He was preceded in death by the mother of his five children, Ruth Shanahan Witte, who died in 1976.
Ray is survived by his children, Ray F. (Darlene) Witte and their children, Rae Anne, Jeff (Vicki) & Thomas (Ginna) Witte, David (Peggy) Witte and their children, David (Amy), Marcus (Dora) & Aaron (Hanh) Witte, Mike (Sharon) Witte and their children, Sarah (Scott) Hopkin, Ruth (Jeff) Poole, Anne (Joe) DeMaria & Michael Witte, Teresa (Gene) Allen, and Donna (Dan) Murphy, Erin (Mike) Schelle & Laura (Jacob) Rogers. He is also survived by twenty-two great grandchildren who will remember him fondly as "GGpa".
Mr. Witte was a veteran of World War II, serving in Romulus, Michigan, where he began his career as a barber. He worked as a barber in Indiana before taking a job as the Armco Steel Company barber in Middletown. His faith and commitment to his community were integral parts of Mr. Witte's life. He was an active member of Holy Family Parish, where he served on many committees.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at 11:00 am at Holy Family Parish - St. John's Church, 1405 First Avenue, Middletown. Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 - 8:00 pm at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd., Middletown. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Vincent dePaul Society, c/o Holy Family Parish, 201 Clark Street, Middletown, OH 45042.
