Rev. Carroll Starkey

Gaston Carroll Starkey, Jr., 83, of Franklin, died Monday, May 20, 2013, at Hospice of Butler & Warren Counties. He was born on June 30, 1929 in Jackson, Mississippi, the son of G.C. "Jack" Starkey Sr. and Annette (Taylor), both of whom preceded him in death.

He graduated from Central High School, Jackson, MS (1947), Mississippi Baptist College (BA 1951) and from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, KY (B. Divinity 1954). He also attended Miami University, Ohio (1961-64). Carroll was ordained to the ministry (1951) by First Baptist Church, Jackson, MS. He pastored churches in Mississippi, Kentucky & Georgia and came to Franklin, Ohio to help start the Eastview Baptist Church in 1960. He retired as pastor of Eastview in 1982 and during that time taught special education classes in the Middletown City School district for 26 years, retiring in 1987.

Carroll was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Kickie (Winslett) in 1984 and his 2nd wife, Gayle (Patrick) in 2009.

He is survived by 5 brothers, Douglas, Gary, Randall, Alvin & Alvis Starkey; 5 children, Diane (Ric) Young, David (Mary) Starkey, Carol Ann (Bob) Johnson, Miriam (Dan) Kakaris & Larry (Ethel) Starkey; 3 step children, Thomas (Elise) Patrick II, Natalie (Dennis) Brooks & Rebecca (Dan) Flaherty; 15 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 6 step grandchildren; 1 step great grandchild; and special friend, Nancy McNabb.

Funeral Service will be held Friday, May 24, 2013 at 10:00 am at Eastview Baptist Church, 4289 W. State Route 122, Franklin (Hunter). Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 - 8:00 pm at the church. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery.
