The Reverend William Edgar Rice, 86, of Monroe, died Thursday, January 5, 2017, at Ohio Living Mt. Pleasant. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on June 14, 1930 to parents Reverend Marshall W. Rice and Helen Adelaide (Lawrence) Rice. He married Joan Arlene DeLacey on June 10, 1955 and the couple had twin sons born on August 8, 1956.
Mr. Rice attended Millikin University, Decatur, Illinois, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature in 1952 and Washington University, St. Louis, where he pursued graduate study in English Literature, 1952 - 1953. He then attended McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago, earning a Master of Divinity degree in 1955. Mr. Rice served Presbyterian Churches in Newton, Roxana, Pekin, Monmouth, and Farmington, all in Illinois. He retired from the ministry in 1995 to live with his wife, Joan, in Champaign, Illinois. They moved to Monroe, Ohio in 2008.
Rev. Rice is survived by his wife of 61 years, Joan Rice of Monroe, Ohio; and sons, David William (Ann) Rice of Tualatin, Oregon and Thomas Marshall (Susan) Rice of Springboro, Ohio; and 5 grandchildren.
Memorial service will be held Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 10:00 am at Mary H. Kittredge Chapel at Mt. Pleasant Retirement Village, 225 Britton Lane, Monroe with Reverend Michael Isaacs & Chaplain Karen Fleming officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 9:30 - 10:00 am at the chapel.
