Richard Lee Barnette Sr., 76, of Camden, Ohio was sadly taken from this Earth at 6:17 p.m. on December 23rd 2023. Richard was born in Frenchburg, Kentucky on April 13th 1947 to Orbie Denzil Barnette and Opal Lee Klatt Barnette.
Richard is survived by his five children, Noel (Jeff) Barnette Norman, Tiffany (David) Dinn, Joel (Emily) Barnette and Richard Lee Barnette, Jr.; five grandchildren, Kody Barnette, Tawnie Barnette, Erik Barnette, Mady Norman and Blake Norman; five brothers, Denzil Barnette, Danny Barnette, Donnie Barnette, Daryl Barnette, and Dana Barnette; three sisters, Patricia Osborne, Pamela Holloway, and Lily Arisha; step-mother, Jo Barnette; and many cousins and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved brother Anthony Ray "Tony" Murray.
Richard Lee Barnette Sr. was 17 when he joined the US Navy and retired after 24 years of honorable service to his country. He was awarded many accommodations and many medals, including four bronze stars. He served two terms in Vietnam. He was commissioned to five different vessels in the U.S. Navy during his terms and they were:
•The aircraft carrier, the USS Enterprise
•The aircraft carrier, the USS Independence
•The cruiser, the USS Fox
•The missile class destroyer, the USS Sellers
•The Fulton class submarine tender, the USS Orion
If you asked him how an engine ran, he could tell you and if you asked him to repair an engine, he could do that too after retiring honorably from the United States Navy.
He joined the Middletown Carpenters Local #2. I asked him what he did out there and he said I build scaffolding. Richard was always tinkering with things and was always trying to make a simple little idea to sell. He traveled the country, he traveled the world, he built things, he repaired things, he helped keep the U.S. Navy running in times of war and in times of peace. We honor you for your service Richard Lee Barnette, Sr.
You have touched the lives of so many and made them better. Your friends and your family will all miss you and cherish your memories and the memories that they had of you.
