Richard (Dick) F. Capozzi -- 83
Dick passed away quietly on November 8, 2017 with his family near his side. He was born in
Middletown on February 21, 1934 to Costantino and Elvira (Sora) Capozzi. He attended Middletown High School and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1953. Dick was stationed at Laughlin Air Base in Del Rio, Texas. After his Honorable Discharge, Dick returned to Middletown to begin a long career in real estate. For the next 50 years Dick worked with Sawyer Realtors, Henkle-Schueler and Martin Realty.
In 1959, he and his brothers Tony and Frank opened Capozzi Shoes on Central Avenue in Middletown, later moving to the Highview Center. For 20 years, Dick fitted shoes to almost every mom, dad and child around Middletown and knew every face, foot and name that entered the store. After closing the shoe store and always having the entrepreneurial spirit, Dick opened Capozzi’s Italian Restaurant with a few family members. Hosting authentic Italian recipes, it soon became a popular location for Italian food lovers. Soon, Dick and his daughter Kim began to market the family’s authentic sauce to area grocery stores.He was a past member of the Middletown Board of Realtors, a charter member of the Frank D. Vitori Lodge of the Order of Sons of Italy in America and an avid collector of antiques, especially antique cars. Dick is preceded in death by his wife Faye, parents, brothers; Tony, Jerry, Frank and infant brother Jenerose, sisters; Nancy Castellano and Julia Root. He is survived by his daughter, Kim (Ron) Morris; brother in law, Harry (Robin) Gabbard; sister Ida (Hal) Pearce and numerous nieces and nephews.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 11 AM -1 PM Tuesday, November 14 at Wilson Schramm Spaulding Funeral Home with services beginning at 1 PM conducted by Deacon John Lyons of Holy Family Parish. Internment will take place at Springboro Cemetery with military honors by the Middletown Combined Honor Guard. A celebration of life taking place at Holy Family Parish Center on Clark Street. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Parish.
