Richard L. Owen, 79, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, August 30, 2023 surrounded by his family. He was born on August 19, 1944 in Tiquisate, Guatemala. He spent the first 14 years of his life in Guatemala and Honduras, where he gained an appreciation for the people of Latin America.
Dick graduated from Needham, Mass High School and West Virginia Wesleyan College, where he met the love of his life, Bobette. After serving in the U.S Army in the Panama Canal zone, he moved to Middletown, Ohio. There he and Bobette raised their children, Laurie and Doug. Here he worked for Contech Construction Products, and later Sawyer Realtors and Meals On Wheels. Dick was a loyal member of Christ United Methodist Church for over 40 years. In 2021 they moved to Milford, Ohio.
Dick loved the Lord and his family and will be greatly missed by his wife, Bobette; daughter, Laurie (Chris) Herrell; son, Doug (Kate) Owen; grandchildren, Chase Herrell, Alyia Herrell, Rickson Herrell, Alani Herrell, Madi Owen & Arlo Owen; many nieces & nephews; and his devoted dog, Fluffy.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, James G. & Mary Elizabeth (DuBose) Owen; and brother, Jim Owen.
Funeral Service will be Saturday, September 2, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd. (at Bonita Dr.), Middletown, with Reverend Michael P. Vilardo officiating. Visitation will be Friday evening from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Graceland Memorial Gardens in Milford.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Matthew 25: Ministries, 11060 Kenwood Rd, Blue Ash, OH 45242.
