Robert E Mcmullen

Robert E. McMullen, 88, died Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at Hospice of Butler and Warren Counties. He was born March 30, 1924 in Mt. Orab, Ohio to parents Raymond and Doris (Liming) McMullen.

In 1929 the family moved to Middletown where he lived and served the rest of his life. Upon graduation from Middletown High School in June of 1942 he enlisted in the Air Force at Wright Patterson. In April of 1943, he and his brother Bill were shipped to England on the Queen Mary. McMullen served in England, France and Germany. He arrived home on Christmas Day 1945 as a Master Sergeant and in January 1946 he married Mildred "Midge" Davidson. They celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary January 11, 2012.
As a young man Bob was a lifeguard at Sunset pool and very active in scouting earning Life Scout. After the war he worked at Aeronca and then with his dad Ray in the construction business. Eventually he started his own construction business. Throughout the City of Middletown are numerous examples of his fine craftsmanship. In 1973 he became the Superintendent of Woodside Cemetery. In 1980 he partnered with Ed Sherman at Denny Lumber Company, filling the void left by the passing of Hugh Cook. He continued working at Denny Lumber Company until he couldn't anymore.
Bob served for two terms on the Middletown Zoning Commission. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Jefferson (Verity #760) Lodge # 90 F & AM, York Rite, Scottish Rite and Antioch Shrine.

Bob is survived by his wife Midge, sons Bobby (Teresa), Jeff (Barbara Reuss) McMullen, grandchildren Laura, Sharon and Ray McMullen, sister Sandy (Larry) Doud and numerous nieces & nephews. His parents and his brother Bill McMullen preceded him in death.

Funeral Service will be held Saturday, August 4, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Woodside Cemetery Chapel, 1401 Woodside Blvd., Middletown with Dr. Dan Flory officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 - 8:00 pm at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd., Middletown with Masonic Service & Scottish Rite Ring Service at 7:30 pm. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery.
