Robert J. Guthman

Robert J. "Bobby John" Guthman, 81, of Middletown, passed away Friday, June 13, 2008, at Mt. Pleasant Retirement Village in Monroe, OH.

Mr. Guthman was born in Elyria, OH on July 20, 1926 to parents Walter F. and Helen L. (Moon) Guthman. He was raised in Zanesville, OH and moved to Middletown in 1946 after serving in the Pacific Theater in the United States Navy during World War II.

He was very much a family man and enjoyed going out to eat. Applebee's and the Waffle House were his favorites. He also enjoyed vacationing with his children and "going to the boat". He was a member of Holy Family Parish – St. John's Church. He retired from Armco Steel Corp. with 36 years of service. He was a member of the Middletown Kiwanis for more than 20 years. He and his wife Mary, volunteered for 13 years with the Meals on Wheels program.

Mr. Guthman is survived by one son: Robert T. (Michelle) Guthman; three daughters: Mary Ann Worley, Patty (Gene) Kempfer, Debbie (Steve) Rogers; seven grandchildren; Keith (Nanako) Miller,
Jennifer (fiance, Jeric Wisecup) Miller, Brian Kempfer, Kelly (Bart) Lane, Steve Rogers, Gabrielle and Shelby Guthman; three great grandchildren, Kyle Miller, Joseph and Sophia Lane.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife of fifty years, Mary F. (Lee) Guthman and his sister, Anne L. Daly.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, June 17, 2008 at 10:00 AM at Holy Family Parish - Holy Trinity Church with Msgr. Paul Metzger as celebrant. Visitation will be Monday, June 16, 2008 from 5:00 - 8:00 pm at WILSON-SCHRAMM-SPAULDING FUNERAL HOME, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd. at Bonita Dr., Middletown. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery.
