Robert Steele

Robert Steele, 89, of Lebanon, went to be with the Lord Thursday, February 19, 2009, at Southview Hospital. He was born in Middletown on March 2, 1919 to parents Armour J. and Bertha (Stahley) Steele.

Bob was born and raised in Middletown and graduated from Middletown High School with the Class of '37. He worked for McGraw Construction Company for 38 years, retiring in 1984. He was a life member of Local 113 Carpenter's Union. He was an avid bowler, starting as a pin boy at the old "Y" alleys. He has bowled in local leagues for over 50 years. In 1955 he and his brother won the doubles in the city tournament. He also was a member of the Steele Family Bowling Team and was a charter member of the 700 Club. Bob was a veteran of World War II, serving with Company I of the 147th Infantry in the South Pacific. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
Bob enjoyed a good journey through life. Besides bowling, he liked golf and traveling with his wonderful wife, Mary Ann.

Mr. Steele is survived by his son, Robert (Linda) Steele II; daughter, Patti (Mike) McKinney; six grandchildren, Brian (Renee) McKinney, Todd (MacKenzie) McKinney, Kevin (Anne) McKinney, Kristin (Donnie) Langworthy, Matt Steele and Melissa Steele; four great grandchildren, Riley, Morgan, Brody and Kylee; sister-in-law, Dorothy Steele; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and his dog, Polly.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Ann Steele in 2008; his parents; brothers, Kenneth Steele, Clarence Steele and Charles 'Mel' Steele; daughter-in-law, Nancy Steele; and sisters-in-law, Katie Steele and Kaye Steele.

Funeral Service will be held Saturday, February 21, 2009 at 11:00 AM at WILSON-SCHRAMM-SPAULDING FUNERAL HOME, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd., Middletown with Reverend Dennis Jones officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 10:00 - 11:00 am. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery with military honors conducted by Middletown Combined Honor Guard.
