Rodney E. “Rod” Dickerson, of Middletown, died Thursday, February 15, 2007, at his home, surrounded by his family & friends. He would have been 79 on Friday. He was born in Zanesville, on February 16, 1928 to the late Clarence and Hazel E. (Friend) Dickerson.
Mr. Dickerson worked as an optician for 12 years in his native Zanesville and after returning from his service in the Air Force during World War II, he was asked by the Carskadden Brothers to open a Middletown Branch. He operated Carskadden Optical in downtown Middletown for more than 60 years, retiring in 2006. Rod enjoyed travel, including a 2002 trip to Australia, but mainly he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Orioles.
He is survived by daughter, Vickii (Dan) Sewell of Monroe; son, Ted (Patsy) Dickerson of Wauseon; grandsons, Scott Felblinger, Brad Felblinger, and Eric Dickerson; granddaughter, Tara (Kevin) McCarty; and step grandsons, William Sewell and Logan Sewell. He also leaves his good friend, Urshel Arnett and longtime friends, Butch & Judi Hill.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Darylene (Lee) Dickerson in 1998.
The family offers special thanks to Ann Marie Horn and the entire Hospice Care of Middletown team, and Dr. Albert Malcolm.
Prayer Service will be held Monday, February 19, 2007 at 10:00 AM at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd. (at Bonita Dr.) with Father John Civille officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, from 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be at Butler County Memorial Park with military honors conducted by American Legion Post 218 Honor Guard.
