Roger Louis Phillips, 76, of Palm Harbor, Florida, died Saturday, November 21, 2009, at Helen Ellis Hospital. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on July 19, 1933, one of three children, to parents Roy and Marie (DeWald) Phillips.
He graduated from Elder High School, attended the University of Cincinnati and served as an Army paratrooper in the Korean War. In 1957 he married Margaret Merschbach and had three children. He worked as a chemist at Monsanto for over 30 years, where he met and became close friends with Tom Walburg. Tom introduced him to his sister Debbie, and they later married in 1985. After retiring in 1993, they moved to Florida. Roger was a golfer and a big football fan who coached Pee Wee Football for over 20 years. He will always be remembered with a smile on his face and a song on his lips
He is survived by his wife Debbie; son, Michael (Donna) Phillips; daughters, Karen Hollister and Kim Steffen; sister, Rita Miller; grandchildren, Shannon, Shauna, Mike, Tommy, Amber, Tiffany, Heather & Josh; and 6 great grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 28, Holy Family Parish, 201 Clark Street in Middletown with Father John Civille as celebrant. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 - 8:00 pm at WILSON-SCHRAMM-SPAULDING FUNERAL HOME, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd., Middletown, Ohio. Entombment will be at Woodside Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made for the benefit of his granddaughter Heather to the Roger Phillips Memorial Fund, Ref. Acct 5493243, c/o Wright Patt Credit Union, P.O. Box 286, Fairborn, Ohio 45324.
