Roger “Poppy” Bailes, 58, of Franklin, died on March 1, 2007, at Jewish Hospital. He was born in Louisville, Kentucky on October 22, 1948 to parents James and Marie (Jeffries) Bailes.
Roger worked 25 years in transportation, retiring in 2006. An avid U.K. fan, Roger had a great love of basketball, serving as varsity basketball coach at Middletown Christian School. He enjoyed coaching, especially his son & daughter and was preparing to coach his granddaughter. He also enjoyed bluegrass music, gardening, and yardwork. "Poppy" was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
Mr. Bailes is survived by his wife, Cynthia “Candy” (Hawkins) Bailes of Franklin; a daughter, Brandy Bailes-Callahan of Franklin; a son, Bryce Bailes of Franklin; two sisters, Bettie (Jack) Collins and Sue (David) Waugh, both of Louisville, KY; a granddaughter, Madyson Maleigh Callahan; and his father, James Bailes.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Marie Bailes.
A heartfelt thanks to the medical staff at Jewish Kenwood Hospital and a special donor, who at the time was serving his country, for without them and Roger’s determination, there would not have been a battle to fight.
