Ronald J. Long

Ronald John "Ronnie" Long, 68, passed away Thursday, February 26, 2015, at home surrounded by his family. Ronnie was born on August 25, 1946 in Middletown, Ohio and lived here all his life. Ronnie was the son of Otto and Edna (Lakaff) Long and a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Ron was a graduate of Middletown High School and Miami University. He worked twenty years at AK Steel before completing his education. Upon graduating from Miami, he began his second career as a teacher and coach at Madison Local Schools, a career he treasured. Ronnie was an avid sports fan, following the Kansas City Chiefs for over fifty years. He enjoyed the Kentucky Wildcats and the Cincinnati Reds. Ron played golf over the years with many dear friends and was a member of Forest Hills Country Club and Wildwood Golf Club. He spent many years as a volunteer coach for Middletown PeeWee Football and had served as president of the organization. Ronnie was a two time state water ski champion, an unlikely accomplishment for a Middletown youth. He participated in water ski shows at Coney Island, his specialty being barefoot skiing.

He will be missed by all who knew him and loved him. Mr. Long is survived by his wife, Brenda (Truesdell) Long; daughters, Jennifer M. (Dominic) Panzera, Kacey A. (Damien) Lomonico & Holly E. (Casey) Popplewell; brothers, Lawrence C. (Judy) Long & David A. (Paula) Long; grandchildren, Austin J. Panzera, Ryan T. Panzera, Chase D. Popplewell & Chandler A. Popplewell; and special family friend, Dane (Nikki) Perrin. He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Dr. Benga, the staff at UC Health Oncology and the entire Hospice staff. His journey was made far better by the love & support of family & friends. Thank you Class of '64 and Team Ronnie.

Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at 11:00 am at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd., Middletown with Reverend John Wagner officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5:00 - 8:00 pm. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery.
