Roy J. Hatfield, 85, of Middletown, beloved husband and father, left this world on Sunday, November 30, 2014. He was born on September 1, 1929 to parents Roy and Margaret "Alma" (Suiter) Hatfield in Lake Charles, Louisiana and raised in Mount Sterling and Salt Lick, Kentucky.
Roy graduated from Middletown High School in 1947 and the University of Cincinnati – College of Pharmacy in 1951. He worked as a pharmacist for 52 years for several area drug stores including Gillen-Crow, Lomark's, Rink's, Muir's, Rite Aid, Big Bear, the Springboro Pharmacy, and the Fairfield Pharmacy, retiring in 2003. He was a proud member of the United States Army. He was involved in several local associations: the Order of AHEPA (as secretary), the Butler County Pharmaceutical Association (as president), the Ohio State Pharmaceutical Association, the Butler County Republican Party Executive Committee, a 30 year plus member of the Middletown Area Republican Club, University of Cincinnati Alumni Association, American Legion Post 218, the Bethlehem Lutheran Church and Boy Scout Troop 87 (as leader).
Mr. Hatfield is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marilyn (Scheibert) Hatfield; his five awesome children, Roy S. Hatfield & Richard Kent Hatfield of Middletown, Mark Hatfield of Wayne Township, Elizabeth Ann Hatfield & Erik V.M. Hatfield of Pembroke Pines, FL; sister, Irene Daniels; nieces, Sally Binegar, Lynn Whitmer, Judy Lawson, Carol Bolden & Margaret Coffman; nephew, Jackie (Thelma) Purvis, Steve Amburgey & Neal (Heather) Purvis; godson, Erik (Becky) Scheibert; first cousins, Joseph Daniel Suiter & Wendell Suiter; and brothers-in-law, Frank Scheibert & Dick (Anita) Scheibert; and his beloved cat Phaimer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Marie (Edwin) Martin, Pauline (Richard) Hardwick, Ethel Amburgey & Joy (Jack) Purvis; and brothers-in-law, Chester Daniels & Mark Scheibert; and nephew, Roy Nelson Purvis.
Visitation will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 212 S. Broad Street, Middletown on Monday from 5:00 - 8:00 pm and prior to the service from 10:00 - 11:00 am. Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at 11:00 am at the church with Pastor Michelle Terry officiating. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Middletown Combined Honor Guard. There will be a luncheon following the interment, back at the church.
