Roy L. Downs

Roy Lee Downs, 74, of Middletown passed away October 26, 2006, at Middletown Regional Hospital, after a three month illness. He was born in Middletown, on February 9, 1932 to parents Walter and Anna (Welch) Downs.

Roy served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and is a member of the American Legion Post 218. He worked at Armco / AK Steel for 39 years before retiring in 1994. Roy attended Franklin First Church of God, enjoyed playing golf and belonged to Dial Radio club where his amateur radio call sign was KC8CYP. He got together monthly with several classmates of Lanier High School.

Roy was preceded in death by his wife Patricia Downs in 2000; and his parents.

He is survived by his brothers, Russell Downs of Middletown and Ronald (Judy) Downs of Monroe; a sister, Marjorie (Ben) Benjamin of Houghton Lake, MI; two nieces, Beth (Vince) Tooney of Utica, MI and Karen (Paul) Frazier of Monroe; and great niece, Ann Frazier and great nephew, Samuel Frazier, both of Monroe.

Private Funeral Service will be held at the convenience of the family with Pastor Phil Moon officiating. Interment will be at Butler County Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Franklin First Church of God, 704 S. River Street, Franklin, OH 45005.
