Rudolph F. "Rudy" Bors, 88, of Monroe, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at Hospice of Butler & Warren Counties. He was born in Middletown on December 27, 1922 to parents John and Louisa (Singhoffer) Bors.
Rudy graduated from St. John's High School in 1940. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1940 and served his country until 1950. During World War II he was a flight engineer on B-24's and later on PBy's in the North Atlantic with the 1st Arctic & Search Squad. When the war was over in Europe, Rudy re-enlisted and went to Japan to work with the 11th Airborne Jump School. From there Rudy was sent to Germany to save over 2 million people trapped behind the Iron Curtain. Rudy flew 134 missions known as the Berlin Airlift. Rudy came back to Middletown and worked 33 years as a bricklayer in the masonry department of Armco Steel (AK). He was a member of the B-24 Association, VFW life member, Berlin Airlift Association, American Legion, the PBy Catalina International Association and Holy Family Parish – St. John's Church.
Rudy is survived by his son, John Thomas (Pam) Bors of Springboro; brother, Fred Bors of Dayton; grandson, Dana (Twyla) Wysong; great grandchildren, Jasmine & Natalee; and a host of nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Kathryn; parents; brothers, Louis, Steve, John Jr. & James Bors; and sisters, Mary Lisy, Betty Averdick & Julia Martin.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, June 13, 2011 at 9:30 am at Holy Family Parish - St. John's Church, 1405 First Avenue, Middletown with Father John Civille as celebrant. Visitation will be Sunday from 1:00 - 3:00 PM at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd., Middletown. Interment will be at Butler County Memorial Park with military honors conducted by the Middletown Combined Honor Guard.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Butler & Warren Counties, 5940 Long Meadow Dr., Franklin, OH 45005.
