Russell P. Donahue, Colonel, USAF Retired, 85, died Thursday, at Middletown Regional Hospital.
He was a veteran of Civilian Conservation Corps, World War II, and the Korean War. He took his basic and combat training with the 12th Armored Division, Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and graduated from the Adjutant General School, Fort Washington, Maryland. He served several assignments in the states and then transferred to Germany where he had various assignments at different bases. He was the Commander of Kaufburen AFB, Germany, and later the Commander of the Headquarters Squadron, AFLC, Wright-Patterson AFB during the Korean War. He was the Commander of the Reserve Unite, 2750th Air Base Wing. As a civilian, Mr. Donahue was a Service Officer with the Inspector General, AFLC.
Mr. Donahue was a member of Holy Family Parish. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Retired Officers Association, Reserve Officers Association, 12th Armored Division Association, AARP, NARFE, the Knights of Columbus, and Kiwanis. He had served as a volunteer for the Meals On Wheels program at Middletown Regional Hospital.
Mr. Donahue is survived by his wife, Katherine R. (Reeves) Donahue and his sister Rose M. Toner. He was preceded in death by his parents, George A. & Mary Martha (Mulligan) Donahue, a sister Mary C. Donahue, and brothers Leo, Thomas, James, William, & Harry Donahue.
Father John Civille will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial. Memorial donations may be made to the Mid-Miami Health Care Foundation Cardiac Rehabilitation Unit, 105 McKnight Dr., Middletown, OH 45044-4898.
